So … This week has been interesting to say the least (and yes I am writing this half way through the week but a lot has happened since I last wrote a post.) – This is gonna be a LOOOOOOONG one so feel free to scroll to what ever section takes you by the most interest.
Firstly, Congrats to the All Blacks with the 42 – 10 Win over Argentina and the Hawke’s Bay Magpies with a 31 – 17 Win over Southland in the National Provincial Championship.
Then we have the scandal of the Auckland City Mission Distributing what have been nick-named “Meth Lollies” – I will go into a bit more depth later in this post and some of the conspiracies floating around.
Lastly, Me and my partner along with a lot of otherwise healthy people have come down with a rather nasty Flu or cold or is it some hybrid of the two? I will be giving my opinion as I always do in these posts, on what I think it is.
Whatever this is – it sucks nasty
So, I know I am usually keen to get started recapping the Rugby games, but give me the lee way of dealing with a rather sucky scandal first.
One way or another this week the Auckland City Mission, A charity that helps a lot of people who are down on their luck for any reason, received a shipment of inconspicuous looking Pineapple flavored lollies (candy for the Americans amongst us) and without knowing any better split them up and distributed them to a bunch of homes, almost immediately complaints started coming in.
One of the lollies that was still on ‘base’ at the Auckland City Mission was tested for drugs and came back as being Methamphetamine, not only did it come back as Meth but one lolly contained a Lethal Dose of 3Grams of it – 300 times the average dose (approx. 250mg to 300mg) typically seen with people using it.
A worker a Ronald McDonald House (Another Charity in the area) ‘Taste tested’ the lolly and later ended up in hospital, likely more out of their own safety than anything else (although we don’t know how to quantify how much ‘meth’ is contained in one “suck” of the lolly, we can safely say it was probably for the best the worker ended up in hospital)
A few investigations ensued with the NZ Police advising anyone who had received a food parcel containing the Rinda Brand Lollies to call them on 111 or 105 and let them know so that they could get picked up, this campaign saw 30 out of the overall count, it was approximated that over 400 food parcels were sent out with each containing roughly 3 – 5 lollies, if we use those figures that means around 2000 lollies were distributed all over Auckland.
This is not a reflection on the Auckland City Mission who do awesome work supporting the people who aren’t able to do so themselves.
In fact, it is totally the opposite, The Donator, although anonymous is likely the one where the blame lies, as that quantity doesn’t just appear from nowhere out of thin air. It has been alleged that the sender was connected to the Mexican Cartel in one way or another, though this might be a long shot it could very well be true and if so leaves this as a potential sabotage case where someone (and there are a few of these ones out there too) was like “We don’t need the poor, let’s Kill them all”. As bad as that seams there are individuals who think like that.
We will have to wait and see what if any charges are levied against anyone, this could take a while so don’t expect it tomorrow.
Rugby Wrap – A delicious burger of winning scores
Unfortunately, I didn’t watch either of the games, so this is likely to be a quick one.
The All Blacks bounced back from the 32 – 30 loss to Los Pumas at Sky Stadium in Wellington with a hearty 6 try victory over the weekend at Eden Park in Auckland. The Los Pumas getting 1 Penalty Field Goal and 1 try as their only points one could suggest it was a slaughter although not anywhere near as bad as some of the past All Blacks teams have dished out. Leaving the All Blacks at 42 – 10 over the Los Pumas side.
The Hawke’s Bay Magpies also felt the home crowd advantage for their first game back at McLean Park in Napier with a 37 – 17 win over the Southland Team. Hawke’s Bay got 4 tries (2 unconverted) and 3 Penalty Field Goals to Southland’s 2 tries and 1 Penalty Field Goal. Hawke’s Bay’s 4th and final try came in the form of Wye during Referee’s Time.
What Has Knocked Healthy People Off Their Feet This Winter?
This has come to light . . . the First Time I have been sick since COVID took me down for a week or 2 back in 2020.
It started out a few weeks ago with a few aches and pains and feeling lethargic at work and spiraled into a Head Cold which we were just going to push through, though unfortunately, our bodies had other Ideas and almost completely shut us down for a good few days.
A few days later it saw us spending in excess of $180 at the emergency doctors to get antibiotics and some steroid for Evee, now we are better, still with a cough and sore throats and sometimes chests (usually just after the coughing). Our medical certificates (med certs or dr. certs) run out on Wednesday (Bryce) and Thursday (Evee) although Evee has returned to work already against my advice, I am not working until Thursday when I can make sure I am fine to return to work (A lot of our jobs involves talking and standing for a while).
I am still unsure what it was (is) as more people come down sick, one of my theories is that it’s the Flu that was meant to hit during the 2020 pandemic and it never got a chance … so it’s now taken the opportunity, and a lot of people with it.
Next Post?
I am never sure when or If I feel like writing another post but it will likely happen next time I either have or make the time. (Hell I might even be very bored at work on a long shift sometime)
Until the next one then,
Be Good to Each Other.
